Geneology sites by other Lynda Jacobs

Do you want to know why I call myself LoLyn.
It comes from Lola Lynda.
I had two aunts named Lola, so not to call me little Lola (thank you)
my family called me Lynda.
My Uncle Eliseo called me "Linda Lynda", but he loved me very much. '

I am the Lola Lynda Jacobs that graduated from Scottsdale (arizona)high school; attended one year at Mesa community collete and played in the band there (1967-68-
I attended NAU the following summer and fall (see NAU stories) and married Max Gardner, moved to Tempe Arizona to complete my bachelors and master's in education 1973, and had seven children. I later went back to NAU for my Master's in counseling; took more classes in 1998-2000 when I worked in Clark County Nevada School district at Rancho and at an elementary school I can't remember. I lived in SC a short time with my husband Paul Farb (2002) and moved back to Utah when he had a nervous break down. I was single for four or five years, then met my current husband , Steven Fetzer, who I married in July 2006. We go to school at Argosy University to get my doctorate in counseling psychology and his masters in MFT.

March 2009, Saturday, I went on the internet and looked up Lynda Jacobs. I found over 200 hits on 22 pages; I tried each one down and narrowed it considerably with Ooops pages, and no longer exist pages, but still there were many Lynda Jacobs.
In my school classes there were sometimes 5 other Linda's,

but Lynda with a Y was my special name,
and Lynda Jacobs was supposed to be my unique name.

Welcome to the world, Lynda Jacobs (all of us). So in my forties I divorced and returned to my maiden name of Jacobs, and with it I decided I didn't want to be that Lynda anymore so I truncated my two first names into LoLyn.

I hardly use a last name anymore; I've had so many it is hard to keep track using all my FKA surnames; so I introduce myself as LoLyn.

These are a few of the genealogy sites I found listed under Lynda Jacobs: I haven't checked them out but they might be worth looking into. I tried to send notices that I was also Lynda Jacobs, and to pay it forward by sending my blog spot on to friend.

Bustamante family history

The Bustamante Family originally used the extended surname of Perez de Bustamante.

It appears that Antonio Perez de Bustamante and his wife

Josefa Snachez de Tagle y Villegas from Puente San Miguel

(previously known as Barcena de la Puente), in the Cantabria region of Spain,

were the parents of Juan Domingo de Bustamante y Tagle, though this has not been

documented conclusively.

Juan Domingo de Bustamante was Governor of New Mexico two terms, from 1722 to 1731,

Juan Domingo de Bustamante and Juan Antonio de Bustamante y Tagle were probably brothers.

Juan Domingo de Bustamante founded a small chapel or sanctuary in Puente San Miguel

called Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe.

In the clef of the entry arch of this chapel there is a small coat of arms

divided into fourths, most likely representing the family shield of

Juan Domingo de Bustamante.

The first fourth of the shield has an imange of a tower.

The second fourth of the shield has the image of three lilies.

The third fourth of the shield has the image of a tree.

The last part of the shild has thirteen disks,

which represents the specific coat of arms of the Peres de Bustamante family.

More can be read about this family on my blogspot New Mexico Bustamantes

and within the second volume of Turn the Hearts of the Children. both on this blog under

those names.

Jornada trail From Mexico to El Paso

North to El Paso
The overnight visit to El Paso on this whirlwind vacation trip would be a welcome stop for all three travelers. The little blue car seemed to Lynae to be more of a prison than anything by the end of the day.

It wouldn’t have been such a long trip if Mom hadn’t insisted on stopping at every historical marker and museum.
At the State Park, Brent and Lynae ran ahead into the visitors’ center. Lynae ran directly into the lady’s restroom. Brent was already enthusiastically admiring the ancient coins, which had been found in the nearby excavation, and Lynae had been attracted naturally, to the wedding dresses displayed in a glass case.
Mom stopped to drool over the books on New Mexico History by Chaves and other New Mexico experts. “You know there’s a two dollar entrance fee?” the park attendant suggested politely.

“Oh, I’m sorry,” Mom apologized without any embarrassment, as was her usual style. “I left my purse in the car -- I’ll have to run out and get it. Be right back. You kids go ahead and look around. Is that OK?“ She asked the attendant as an afterthought, not waiting for his answer. Brent and Lynae headed out the other door to the excavation site.

“Brent, look at the covered wagon. Climb up here and we can be pioneers. The wagon was firmly planted in concrete slab and had no animals attached.
Suddenly as they were seated on the wagon seat, the wagon lurched forward and living animals appeared, straining forward along with many other wagons.
“Where do you think we’re going, Lynae? This desert landscape looks familiar. And look the sun is setting on the left! We’re not headed west. We’re traveling north!
Friar Francisco Farfàn rode up beside the wagon with his soldier escort. “We’ll be reaching El Paso del Norte by sunset,” the Friar announced. The settlers who stayed behind last fall will be ready to greet us there and help us recover from this trip north from Mexico City.

“Padre,” Lynae called. What year is this, again?”
“1694. It’s June. Are you all right hijita?”
“Oh, yes, I’m fine. I guess I was just dreaming or dozing off.
Sorry. Padre, grácias”

Brent was holding his mouth with both hands to suppress an excited giggle of delighted surprise mixed with anticipation.

“Lynae, we’re on our way to El Paso from the south. This is one of the yearly wagon trains from Mexico to Santa Fe. We must be among the Reconquest settlers and colonists one hundred fifty years before the Mormon pioneers and settlers crossed from Illinois to Utah. Let’s see if we can find some of our old friends when we get to the camp tonight.”

“I think we’ll have to wait ‘til morning to go visiting. There will be plenty to do to help out when we first arrive. Besides, I‘ve got to find a restroom.”

“You should have gone before we left!” Brent imitated the adults.

“I did, Brent, I went at the museum.”
Brent and Lynae energetically took their place among the colonists as they pulled the wagons into El Paso del Norte, where they were each assigned to a family for the night. Lynae quickly fell in with a group of girls headed out into the desert away from the wagon train. She had heard the wagon master, or myordomo, shout, “Women to the right, men to the left.”

THIS IS A CHAPTER FROM "TURN THE HEARTS OF THE CHILDREN VOLUME I" WHICH IS POSTED ON ANOTHER BLOG IN THIS SAME BLOGSPOT BY LOLYN. TURN THERE TO READ THE REST OF THIS EXCITING ADVENTURE OF BRENT AND LYNAE AND MANY MORE AS THEY TRAVEL THROUGH SPACE AND TIME TO GET ACQUAINTED WITH THEIR ANCESTORS THAT FOUNDED AND SETTLED THE BEAUTIFUL STAE OF NEW MEXICO OVER THE PAST 400 YEARS.

They continued their journey on past the Río Grande, through what is now Española, and on into the new town of Santa Fé -- "Holy Faith".
Arriving in Santa Fe, volunteers were recruited to take a census. Brent and Lynae eagerly volunteered to record the names of family members and other colonists entering Santa Fé for the resettlement. They were aware that these very important folks would be the ancestral foundation upon which at least the next two centuries of New Mexico genealogy would be built.

Recently, I came across this post about the Jornada del Muerto. I really like it. I decided to profile this blog, and six others that you have produced, on the New Mexico Genealogical Society Blog. Santa Fe NM census 1680

Re-entry Census
“Some of the original refugees aren’t here with us because as far back as 1682 many received permission to leave the refugee colony and move south. Others left without permission.” Padre Farfán explained, placing quills, ink and precious paper on the wooden table brought from his wagon just for the census. Paper was brought all the way from Spain by ship, then through the desert in wagons. Brent examined the ink horn as he took it from Padre’s hand. It was part of a deer antler hollowed out, and the plug was whittled from a piece of wood. He recognized it from those strapped over men’s shoulders in other times, but had not realized what it was.
“As you begin to run low on ink, you must add water to make it stretch; we won’t have more until the next wagon train comes in next year.”
“But that makes it harder to read than ever,” Lynae complained.
“Yes, but it is better to write down the information in some form, than run out of ink and have no record at all. Brent, sprinkle this sand over each page as it is filled, to dry the ink. Then put the pages into this book. I will be back to get them, and the books will all be stored in safe vaults in the church archives.”

“Why is it so important to keep such records, Padre?”
“I don’t know, but I feel strongly that it is important somehow to keep detailed records, not just of the births and deaths, but the names and families of the colonists. The legal records have been kept just as carefully in the courts. So much information was lost when the records were burned during the revolt. There is a scripture in the book of “Malachi” in the Old Testament mandating the hearts of the children must be turned to the fathers, lest the earth be smitten with a curse. We’ve had all the curses this old man can stand. This is the only way I have of following that directive.”

fOR THE REST OF THE STORY see "Turn the Hearts of the Children I", an historical Novel about the founding, settling and return of the New Mexico settlers before and 12 years after the Indian raids. It is fun fantasy travel through tiem and space with my children discovering the true facts as recorded in history of their ancient ancestors who settled the west long before the Eastern shores were even thought of, except by Vikings and that is "a whole nother story". Join us wont you indiscovering New Mexico history, genealogy and social, cultural and political customs of our ancestors, our cousins and grandparents. Maybe we'll meet up along the way?

Baca, Vaca, De Vaca, Cabeza de Vaca

Chaves clarifies:

“The correct spelling of this family name is VACA but already in the seventeenth century BACA had come into common usage, and was the accepted spelling after the Reconquest. Although it is derived from Cabeza de Vaca, a title and name received by a Spanish hero in the year 1212, the full name was never once used by this New Mexico family for over two centuries. Several Vacas came to the New World shortly after its discovery. Among those in Cortes’ time were Diego de Vaca, a native of Mancilla in Leon and Luis Vaca, a native of Toledo. Either of these could have been the father of Juan Vaca, the father of our Cristóbal Baca.
These were among the founding families of New Mexico; the first colonists, the very roots upon which the branches of many New Mexico families were established. These were among the few families that survived the initial Indian raids, the purging of rebels and deserters and mutinies. They were the strong, the brave, the few who lived to establish your ancestral families in the new world of New Mexico as the world moved into the new seventeenth century.”

Intro to Turn the HEARTS

Introduction by Brent and Lynae

OK. Now, when you read this book, I want to tell you, it's not exactly how it happened. You see, Mom took us on this trip through New Mexico the summer Lynae turned 12, mostly to see Grandma Lucy and then down to southern Arizona to see our oldest sister, Cheryse and her three little girls. I was already 13 and a half that summer. Then we traveled again the following summer. During this time period we lived with our dad and step-mom in an apartment near Summerlin in Las Vegas, Nevada.
I’m not going to explain about the joint custody, because that is a whole ‘nother book. Mom explained to us ahead of time that on these trips we would be seeing some of the sights that belonged to her family history; a lot of them that she had never seen, because she didn't grow up in New Mexico.
But some of the things in this book didn't happen exactly in the order that they are told. You see, we kind of jumped around from place to place and time to time, because when we took the trip in real time, we had to kind of stay on the road and follow the map, but when Lynae and I traveled around through the past, we didn't always follow the map -- or the calendar. So when the book was written, we thought it would be better to tell it in historical order. So sometimes, the story about our trip gets a little out of order, to put the story of our adventures into a chronological order.
Well, Brent, aren't you going to tell them that they can travel through time using their imaginations, and using the history and genealogy in this book, they can have the same adventures and exciting visits to the past?
No, Lynae, I think I'll just let them find that out on their own. They might not believe in time travel, or they just might not like adventure.
Maybe we should tell them that the history and genealogy information are accurate as far as we know, and the stories about when we are with Mom, are accurate, except for time order, and the rest. . .
I think you just did. I’m just sorry we couldn’t include all the neat people we met and especially all the relatives, but that would have taken several more volumes.
We should have kept better journals. Maybe we can return some day and spend more time.
Oh, well, maybe we should just let them read the book and decide for themselves.

Why research genealogoy?

Malachi 4:5-6
Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord; and he shall turn the hearts of the fathers to the children and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

This project started out as an autobiographical sketch which was to include my mother and my two grandmothers, to be called “Four grandmothers.” As I researched the New Mexico materials, I found it so intriguing that I wanted to share that too with my grandchildren. Over the course of the three years it has taken to research and write and re-write this novel, I have lost track of the exact materials that provided the many quotations, descriptions and historical information I have used.
I originally planned to foot note every quote and every paraphrased description I used, but I found it overwhelmed the book as there were several footnotes per page. Since my purpose is to share information and not overwhelm a reader with a research document, I made the decision to fully acknowledge all the sources by abbreviated footnotes at the beginnings of the chapters, and use a different font face to indicate direct quotes from sources. In some cases I have lost tract of the exact source, and in others, I have paraphrased and rewritten so much I can’t remember where my words take over the original. So to the authors and publishers of the sources I have used, I apologize if I have infringed on any copyrights. I have made many attempts to contact the copyright holders, but most the letters have been returned by the post office.
I have worked to be as accurate as possible about times, places and events and descriptions, using poetic license only to make transitions between the present and past.
Genealogical information is accurate and mostly from Origins of New Mexico Families, and most of that is plagiarized from the source along with the descriptions and tidbits of family history that Chavez compiled. Since these can be found alphabetically in the first half of Origins, I deleted the footnotes telling the page numbers. Page numbers on the copies of pedigree charts are mostly from Origins.
I want to acknowledge and express my thanks to my mother, my two aunts, Marian Baca Candelaria Martinez and Dolores (Lola) Baca Candelaria Salazar, for their stories, both written and oral, and my wonderful Uncle Eliseo who worked so many hours with me decades ago to fill in the pedigree charts from microfilmed church records, cemetery records, and other sources.
This book is a monument to each of them and their families as well.
Dolores = Auntie Lola

George Jacobs I II III IV and Woodman Jacobs

We have nothing closer than 7th cousins with the name Jacobs because the line went "over the wall" with Woodman Jacobs; after that each generation had only one son who lived to have decendants until my Father, Charles Glenn Jacobs had two sons and each of those sons had sons, but one grandson did not have any boys so it was left to David Duane Jacobs to continue the line, and continue he did. He had four boys, and they are doing their duty to the Jacobs line. Stars indicate direct line.*

See "My four Grandmothers" Email me for pedigree charts and family group sheets on these people. These pages were taken from my table index and didn't transfer well. growingtogethercounseling@comcast.net

Cabeza de Vaca was a name given to a cow hearder in Spain in 12th century as he herded his cattle across the only pass into the valley and stopped the Moores from capturing the city. He was knighted and given the coat of arms Cabeza de Vaca (Head of a cow) and for generations the family used this name. In records of 16th century Mexico the name has been changed to Vaca and later to Baca. See introduction I Turn the Hearts Of The Children (Jacobs, L. 2009) ready for publication.
